Domestic Seafarers work on vessels in Australian waters which may extend up to 200 nautical miles off the coast. The work environment is challenging, and fitness for duty is important. A valid Medical Certificate of Fitness is required for all new Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) issued certificate of competency applications as well as certain renewals.
Medical certificates are valid for up to 4 years for seafarers age 19-50, 2 years if aged 51-60, and up to 1 year for ages not otherwise stated. A lesser period may be nominated where closer monitoring is deemed necessary.

Please note that medical fitness for International Certificates can presently only be arranged through Sonic Health Plus.
